Patents, research driven by the market, blue sky research and other issues will be touched at the EMBL-EBI symposium this incoming Friday (19th).
I think the debate will be very interesting and the level of speakers is very high. Will be streamed on ustream so you can follow from home if you’re not in Cambridge.

C’è il ragazzo albanese arrabbiato per la battuta di pessimo gusto del premier all’indirizzo delle bellezze albanese. Ci sono tutti quelli che hanno potuto e voluto esserci, migliaia di persone, per la prima volta insieme, al di là del colore della pelle e del luogo di provenienza. Molti hanno richieste semplici, banali e burocratiche. Come la ragazza che è in Italia da quasi vent’anni, che studia all’università e che deve rinnovare ogni due anni il permesso di soggiorno.
Formigoni non si può presentare alla regionali perchè non ha le liste !
La Polverini non ha presentato le firme in tempo nel lazio.
E la gente vuole farsi governare da gente così?
Che gente scarsa, veramente scarsa.
Fanno pena.
Poi sicuramente faranno un milione di legge per cambiare la carte in tavola e potranno candidarsi comunque, ma diciamocelo, sono proprio degli incompetenti.
Come si può vedere dal comunicato di Terna, non serve costruire nuove centrali, ma basta investire sulla distribuzione per recuperare vagoni di energia che vengono invece buttati per la cattiva distribuzione.
Un esempio? Secondo il comunicato di Terna, con
3,1 miliardi gli investimenti in 5 anni che a regime sbottiglieranno tra i 2.500 e i 4.500 MW di produzione più efficiente, equivalenti al doppio del consumo di picco di una città come Roma, porteranno un risparmio annuo per le bollette di 600 milioni di euro ed una riduzione delle emissioni di CO2 di 2,5 milioni di tonnellate/anno.
Le fantomatiche centrali nucleari del governo fanno 1.6 GW . Così ne recuperiamo 2.5 GW. Prima. E con meno soldi. E senza il problema delle scorie. Capisc?

Which is reasonable, but this is not the case.
Yesterday it was possible to find them. On Google Images. Not today.
The question is why?
Update: it seems now you can find them, so the google spider for images is a bit lagging behind.
So, as many of you are aware, somebody throw a Duomo souvenir statue to the Prime Minister of Italy, Berlusconi. The poor man was hit in the face, he lost two teeth and he bleed quite a lot.
I just want to raise three points:
One thing that Greg pointed out yesterday: when somebody throw stuff to his old head of state (an affair implicating Mr Bush and a shoe, google will tell you more…), Mr bush was able to dodge the shoe. I think if Berlusconi had tried something like that he would had cracked. (It’s too old, c’mon.)
This episode doesn’t change the italian situation. The complete incompetence of this italian government on the energy policy, on the university and research reform, on the economic investment to relaunch the country economy and on the shift to a sustainable regime still remains. More over the problems with the justice which the prime minister has with the justice are not yet solved.
So get well soon Prime Minister, get back to work and try to do something useful for the Italian people.
